CITI Online Training
Effective August 18, 2007: The IRB requires that all principal investigators and co-investigators conducting human subjects research must successfully complete the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) online training program www.citiprogram.org prior to submitting a protocol for consideration.  An IRB protocol application will not be approved until all principal investigators and co-investigators have completed this training.

When registering in the CITI program as a new user, choose “Boise State University IRB” from the list of participating institutions, and continue to create a user name and password.

Once registered, you need to select which group of modules to take.  Depending on the nature of your research, you will want to choose either “Social Behavioral Research Investigators and Key Personnel” or “BioMedical.”  The group title “IRB Committee Members” is required for IRB members only.

The "Social Behavioral Research Investigators and Key Personnel" group has 14 modules and will take approximately 3-4 hours to complete.

The “BioMedical” group has 17 modules and will take approximately 3.5-4.5 hours to complete.

The “IRB Committee Members” group has 32 modules and will take approximately 7-9 hours to complete.

In order to pass the training and receive your certification, you must have an overall score of 75% or higher on your quizzes.  You may retake these quizzes as many times as necessary to receive a passing score.

Once you have successfully passed the quizzes, your training is complete.  A copy of your training certification will automatically be emailed to the Office of Research Compliance.  The ORC recommends that you print a copy of this report for your records.  You also have the opportunity to complete a voluntary and anonymous satisfaction survey regarding the CITI training.
