Bachelor of Applied Science Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum GPA required to graduate with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree?

A 2.0 GPA is required.

Will I be able to take all classes I need in the evening or on the weekends?

Yes. Currently we have eight majors that offer their program completely in the evening or on weekends. They include Accountancy, Applied Science, Communication, Criminal Justice, Elementary Education, General Business, General Studies, Health Sciences Studies. You can work your study plan for the BAS degree around weekend and evening classes. Many other departments offer courses in the evenings.

What do I need to do to get my technical credits to count toward this degree?

Forty of your technical credits will count toward your BAS degree. These 40 credits will show on your transcript as: BASCI 100XF with a grade of “Pass”.

Will I be required to take prerequisites before I can take certain courses?

Yes, if there are prerequisites to a particular course you plan to take you will need to satisfy the prerequisite requirement, or get special permission from the instructor.

May I declare a minor?

Yes, BAS students may pursue a minor. Some minors require admission. Please talk to your advisor if you would like to pursue a minor.

Can I do an internship?

Yes, BAS students are eligible for internships, although they must be overseen by an academic department. Please go to the Internship website to learn more.

Do I still have to take all of the core requirements?

If you have already completed an academic AA or an AS degree, you will not need to complete the core requirements. However, an AAS degree does not satisfy the core requirements.

What grade do I have to get in the core and upper-division courses?

A "C-" or better must be achieved in all core and the 40 required upper-division courses.
