Art Admission Procedures

Who Should Apply:

New Freshman, Transfer and Second Degree Seeking students who have been admitted to Boise State University and plan to study Art during Fall 2012 semester and beyond must first apply to the Art Department.  Continuing Boise State students changing their major/minor to Art must also apply.  You must be accepted to the program before you can register for Art courses.

BA Visual Art
BFA Art Education
BFA Graphic Design
BFA Illustration
BFA Visual Art
Art Minor
Art Teaching Endorsement

Bachelor of Arts or Minor in History of Art and Visual Culture
Students pursuing a BA or Minor in History of Art and Visual Culture are exempt from this procedure.

How to apply to the Art Department:

Application to Major or Minor in Art:
Art Department requires applicants to submit their application, portfolio and essay online at: http://boisestateart.slideroom.com  This application process is in addition to your application for admission to Boise State University.  Create a Slideroom account, complete the application, upload a maximum of six images of your work, and submit a writing sample.  Our SlideRoom portal offers additional instructions for submitting work. Please review it before organizing your application materials. For technical assistance, access the help desk on the SlideRoom portal site. 

Fee:

$15 application fee.  When submitting an application, you must pay the application fee as a credit card payment at the same time, or the application will not be processed.

You will be notified via your Boise State Broncomail account of acceptance or denial within two weeks after the deadline. If not accepted into an Art degree program, you may reapply.

Portfolio

Your portfolio should contain your best and most recent work. Include at least three examples from the emphasis area you choose (if possible) and at least one example of a freehand drawing done without the aid of any computer software, photograph or mechanical device. Writing Sample

Art classes require written assignments including artist statements.  You will be asked to respond in writing to one of three topics. Your essay should contain a maximum of 250 words.  Sentence structure, grammar, spelling as well as content will be taken into consideration.
