The printmaking program is designed to teach the latest in printmaking innovations as well as the traditional media and techniques. The difference, however, is that the old and new methods are taught using safer less-toxic materials and techniques. The latest materials like ImagOn intaglio, polyester plate lithography, photopolymer relief plates, and water based screen printing and relief printing are taught as mainstream techniques. Students can also study monotypes, papermaking, collagraphs, bookmaking, chine colle and multimedia techniques.

Boise State Printmaking facilities include one large room filled with work tables, screen frames and a letter press; another large room housies intaglio presses, lithographic presses, a large U.V. Vacuum table exposure unit, and related printing equipment and two small rooms one of which functions as a dark room. The printmaking facilities also includes a computer lab with computers, scanners, printer and a CD burners. The graduate studio houses an intaglio press and related equipment.

The instruction stresses individual creativity and aesthetics, innovative use of the media and techniques and sound technical skills.
