Getting Started as a Bicycle Commuter: Route 6

Franklin/Randolph Bench to Campus

7:10 a.m. riders convene in the parking lot behind Southminster Presbyterian Church, 6500 Overland Road. This is not a Park-n-Ride facility. The nearest Park-n-Ride facility is behind the Overland Park shopping center, east of the Eagles Lodge. Plan to arrive via bicycle at the church parking lot.

7:15 a.m. depart, riding northwestward on Hummel Street
at Cameron, turn right
at Randolph, turn right
at Aurora, turn left
at Cassia, turn right (7:19)
cross Curtis Road
at Phillippi, turn right (7:23)
at Kootenai, turn left (7:25)
cross Orchard Street
cross Vista (7:35)

continue on Kootenai, joining Protest Road
cross Federal Way, descend Protest Hill
cross Boise Avenue
join Beacon Street
at Lincoln Avenue, turn left
arrive at Student Union (7:40 a.m.)

Return Options

  1. Arrange a time to meet friends at Memorial Plaza and bicycle home together.
  2. Take your bicycle to the intersection of University and Joyce, where you can catch Valley Ride bus #29, Overland. Bus departs at 12:15, 1:15, 2:15, 3:15, and each half-hour thereafter until 6:45 p.m. Bus runs along Overland Road. Choose a convenient corner at which to de-board the bus, and bicycle home.
  3. Also serving the Franklin/Randolph Bench neighborhood is Valley Ride Bus #6, Orchard. To catch this route, ride your bicycle downtown to bus Zone 1 (Idaho at Capitol). Bus 6 departs at 12:45 p.m., 1:45 p.m., and at 30 minute intervals from 2:45 until 6:45 p.m.
