Kara Donahue a former graduate student witht the Department of Biological Sciences paper entitled "Sex determination of Red-tailed Hawks (Buteo jamaicensis calurus) using DNA analysis and morphometrics" was published in the Journal of Field Ornithology and was among the most frequently cited contributions to the journal within the last five years. Kara will have the chance to speak about her topic with 9 other top authors at a special symposium at next years Association of Field Ornithologists conference in Ogden, Utah (Aug 12-14, 2010).

Josh White was awarded Boise State University's Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award and will be the university's nominee for the Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award given by the Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS).

White’s winning thesis, “Seed Predation on Slickspot Peppergrass by the Owyhee Harvester Ant,” was advised by associate professor Ian Robertson of the Department of Biological Sciences. White will receive a plaque from College of Arts and Sciences Dean Martin Schimpf at a college-wide meeting August 19.

May 8, 2009
Danielle Clay, Department of Biological Sciences Graduate student, received a grant from the Northwest Science Association in the amount of $1500. This award will help fund the exploration of potential hybridization in a rare endemic species on Indian paintbrush (Castilleja christii, Orobanchaeae) using molecular and morphological techniques.

Danielle was also awarded a grant from the Idaho Native Plant society for $200 and an interdepartmental Biology grant for $500.

Boise State Biological Sciences Graduate Students Erin Strasser & John O'Keeffe received Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology Grant in Aid of Research awards. Erin will receive $1000 from SICB to support her research on how human disturbance affects the development of the physiological stress response in kestrels. John will receive $1000 from SICB to support his research on Oxidative Stress and Migratory Flight Strategies in Raptors. Read More
