Facilities Operations & Maintenance Department
Warehousing/Surplus Property
Overview:
Boise State
University maintains several warehouses for storage of materials in support
of the University’s educational mission.
Warehouses:
The warehouses are used for three main functions.
They are as follows:
Storage of items critical to the University function. Critical items
range from Academic program items to record document archives as required
by policy.
Short term storage of surplus property for reissue or to be sold to the
public.
Short term storage of displaced items due to construction, moving or
changing programs, etc.
The first function of critical items; the property will be tagged and
inventoried with stored date and department contact name. Since warehouse
space is expensive and there is a growing demand for space, we periodically
ask the stored item owners to review and verify the need for those items
in storage.
Included with critical items is the record document archives which maintain items that are stored in accordance with university policy BSU Policy 1030
The second function of surplus property; Surplus property is picked up and taken to our warehouse for disposal or reissue. See BSU Policy 6270 on control of University Equipment and Materials. Be sure to fill out a Salvage Form when requesting this service.
The third function storage for displaced items; When there is a need for displaced item storage service, please submit a work order on our TMA service desk.
Document disposal:
As part of the first function of the warehouse for storage of critical items, we also handle an annual disposal of record archives in accordance with state laws and University Policy BSU Policy 1030 . To insure compliance with good standards, we use a NAID certified company.
