Serving as a reference is a task that I am happy to perform in the proper circumstances. First, and perhaps foremost, I must be in a position to evaluate your performance and to comment on issues such as integrity and motivation. Thus, I cannot fulfill every request to serve as a reference unless the following conditions are met:

1. you must have taken (and passed) at least one upper-division or graduate class with me.

2. please do not list me as reference without first checking with me.

3. be sure that I can accurately report on your performance .
