Scotland was led by the Bruce family. Yes, this is the period of Robert the Bruce and of William Wallace, now famous for that annoying movie.

England under Edward I had laid claim to Scotland. The Scots, naturally, objected. The result was a centuries-long running conflict between the two nations as to the nature and extent of Scottish independence that lasted right down to modern times.
