Germany
Rupert I
Not of the Luxemburg clan, but count Palatine and member of
the
Wittelsbach
family. When the princes grew disgusted with King Wenceslaus, it was to Rupert
that they turned. He never was effective as ruler, in part because he lacked the
resources and in part because three of the electors refused to recognize his
election.
As Count Palatine, Rupert was himself one of the electors. As King of Bohemia, so was Wenceslaus. Saxony and Brandenburg likewise refused to recognize Rupert. To make matters worse, he alienated his chief supporters and was actually preparing for war against the Archbishop of Mainz when he died in 1410.
