Assignments for Section Two
There are a number of regions and countries that we aren't going to have time to study. This assignment is your chance to take a look at one. The areas you can consider are:
- Ireland
- Ottoman Empire
- Portugal
- Kingdom of Sicily
- Kingdom of Naples
- Republic of Venice
- Duchy of Tuscany
- Duchy of Milan
- Savoy
- Bohemia
- Poland
- Hungary
- Sweden
- Switzerland
Your assignment is to find and report on tourist spots in any one of these regions. Browse the Internet or go to tour books and find anything you can find that relates directly to the period covered by our course (1500-1700).
All you need to do is to write a short description of what you find, with particular attention to sites or objects that can still be seen. For example, if I had listed Saxony as a destination, you might have listed Wittenberg. But what in the city still remains? The door where Luther posted his 95 Theses? The university where he taught? What I'm looking for are surviving artefacts and a description of what they are and why they are historically significant. You should list a minimum of five places. Feel free to include pictures.
