Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have a question related to something you should know, understand, or do as Department Chair?
Chances are, someone else could use the same information. Send questions to Cindy Anson at canson@boisestate.edu. After responding to your specific question, we will post a generic version of it in this space.
What are the contract dates for nine-month faculty appointments for 2007-2008?
Contract days start on August 22, three days prior to the start of classes in August, end on May 17, the date of Spring Commencement, and include all days that classes are held and finals week for both Fall and Spring semesters.
It is the responsibility of all faculty/administrative staff to make acceptable arrangements with the department chair or immediate supervisor for any absence from scheduled duties during the contract period.
When is a faculty member required to take leave when absent from campus?
Most standard, nine-month faculty appointments do not accrue annual leave. Faculty are presumed to be working at least 40 hours per week while classes are in session. Faculty should maintain and post office hours, but otherwise have flexibility regarding when and where their work is accomplished.
Department chairs should request the schedules of their faculty so that they generally know when faculty are on campus, working at home, in the field, or at another professional setting.
Faculty do accrue sick leave and should complete sick leave forms when they are not able to work their regular hours (on-campus or off-campus) due to illness.
How does a department arrange for campus services when hosting a Visitor or Affiliate?
Visitors and Affiliates are individuals associated with Boise State University who are not hired and/or not paid through our usual procedures and who are not considered temporary or permanent employees. When a department wishes to recognize the contributions to the University made by their Visitors or Affiliates or to provide Visitors and Affiliates with campus services related to their campus role, the department initiates the Request for Approval of Visitor and Affiliate Status and Services process.
It is the responsibility of the Vice President to whom the sponsoring department reports to approve the Visitor or Affiliate status of the individual(s) before campus services can be arranged. Once this status is approved by the appropriate Vice President, the sponsoring department can request campus services for the Visitor or Affiliate.
