What’s the difference between Academic and Professional Education Credit?
Whether you take these courses for professional education (formerly inservice) credit, undergraduate academic credit, or graduate academic credit, they will all appear on your transcript. The difference is that professional education credit is graded as Pass/Fail while academic credit is assigned a letter grade (A, B, C, D, F). If you want your credit hours to count toward a degree, you must take these classes for academic credit and check with your institution to see if they will be accepted for your program of study. If you want credit that counts toward recertification or a pay-raise, the lower cost option of professional education credit might be the way to go. Check with your certifying agency and/or academic institution to determine the credit option that is required for your situation.
If you have never attended Boise State University before and wish to take computer-based multimedia classes for professional education credit, please follow this process flow-chart or you may simply print out and fax or mail your application today.
There is no charge for the professional education application process.
If you are a returning student and have not attended Boise State for more than one semester, please update your information here.
Undergraduate and Graduate academic course offerings require that you be admitted to Boise State University as either a degree-seeking or a non-degree seeking student. If you have not been admitted to Boise State and wish to take classes for academic credit, follow the process flow-chart provided here.
Non-degree seeking status allows you to take seven (7) credit hours or less and pay only part-time fees. In-state and out-of-state fees are the same for part-time students. If you take eight (8) credit hours or more as an undergraduate or graduate student, you pay full-time tuition and fees. In-state and out-of-state tuition and fees are different for full-time students. To view current tuition and fees, please click here.
