OCFDP Support
At Boise State, online courses are developed by faculty members, with support provided by the institution. Institutional support for online instruction is provided by Academic Technologies (AT), Distance Education (DE), the Office of Information Technology (OIT), Student Affairs, and the faculty member's academic department. Support includes the following:
Administrative
- Online admissions, operation and administration of the PeopleSoft online registration system, and many other essential student services (Student Affairs).
- Specialized student support and course scheduling for distance courses (DE).
- Training and development stipends, paying for course instruction as appropriate, inter-institutional course/program administration, and new faculty support (DE and academic department).
Technical
- Technical assistance to students and faculty (OIT, AT, and Student Affairs).
- Information about, consultation on, and assistance with online teaching tools other than Bb, such as wikis, blogs, streaming media, and podcasting (AT).
Development
- Faculty training in use of Bb, appropriate software, and OTT (AT).
- Information, consultation on selection, and assistance in using other online teaching tools such as wikis, blogs, streaming media, and podcasting (AT).
- Administration of Online Course and Faculty Development Program (DE).
Equipment and Network
- Maintenance of adequate computer servers, networks, and network backbone or local area networking media for online courses (OIT).
- Security and integrity of the computer systems and networks through the use of encryption keys and passwords (OIT).
- Use of Boise State licensed software (OIT and AT).
- Operation and administration of the Blackboard (Bb) course management system (AT).
- Institutional computers, printers, and email (academic department).
Instructional design
- Instructional design consultation during online course development and instruction (AT).
- Facilitation of course design peer review and assistance with implementing recommendations (AT).
- Orientation and proactive first semester communication and support for faculty new to online teaching at Boise State (DE).
- Ongoing support, resource facilitation, and referral for all faculty teaching online (DE).
