Videoconferencing

Description

Video Conferencing classes provide synchronous instruction through video broadcasting technology. The instructor will provide a lecture at one location which is viewed in real time by students at another location. Students located at another site can ask questions of the instructor during the lecture through the two-way audio and video system. In-person classroom attended may be required by the instructor for all class lectures. Course information such as syllabus, assignments, or schedule may be accessed from a Blackboard online course site, webpage, or email from instructor. When there are exams that require in-person monitoring, a proctor will be in the room at all distant site locations.

INRA Subsurface Science Graduate Program

This is one program that uses Video Conferencing to provide lectures to several distant sites. The Subsurface Science Graduate Program (SSGP) is a long-term collaborative effort by the universities of the Inland Northwest Research Alliance (INRA) to enhance research and education in the subsurface sciences. Development of the SSGP is the primary goal of the Subsurface Science Research Institute (SSRI), an INRA project funded by the U.S. Department of Energy under contract DE-FG07-02ID14277. Activities of the SSRI include the development and implementation of multi-institutional graduate courses in the subsurface sciences, the acquisition and installation of course distance delivery systems, and the recruitment of outstanding graduate students through the SSGP fellowship and research support program. The SSGP is designed to support the subsurface science emphasis of the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) by extension of graduate faculty status to participating INEEL scientists and engineers and by inclusion of a classroom site in Idaho Falls in the distance delivery network.
