Teaching Philosophy

I believe that the university classroom can and should be a teaching/learning experience fro all who enter it, and I am committed to creating an environment in which all voices are valued equally. Therefore, In all my classes I work to create opportunities for students to contribute to and share in the exchange of knowledge: group presentations and varied kinds of group activities, and a teaching style that regularly blends lecture and discussion. Inspired by the interdisciplinary nature of m y scholarly work (which straddles English and Theatre Studies), I teach literature as part of a larger cultural conversation, regularly incorporating ideas and examples from history, art, film, and popular culture.
