Teaching Philosophy

As an English educator, I see myself as a member of larger communities, including both the disciplinary communities of English and composition, as well as the professional community of English and Language Arts educators. Therefore, when I am teaching I believe that I am helping people to learn how to participate meaningfully within these communities. In a more practical sense, this means that I try to create opportunities for students to create a vision of the professional practice of teaching the English Language Arts by extending and refining what they know about learning and learners, about subject matter, and about pedagogical practices.
