MFA Program in Creative Writing >> Admission Requirements

Students applying to the MFA Program in Creative Writing are required to apply separately to the Graduate College. You can find information about the Graduate College at www.boisestate.edu/gradcoll/0002.html. See application procedures below.

A. MFA PROGRAM ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES

Please submit the following materials to the MFA Program Director Martin Corless-Smith by January 15:

1. Letter of intent: A 500 word essay explaining your goals in pursuing graduate study in creative writing.

2. Writing Sample: A manuscript consisting of either 30 pages of fiction or a minimum of 15 poems.

3. Three letters of recommendation from professors who are familiar with your academic work. These should be sent by the recommenders directly to the Director of the MFA Program in Creative Writing.

B. BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY GRADUATE ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES

Please submit the following materials to the Boise State University Graduate Admissions Office by January 15:

1. Graduate Admissions Application (available to download at www.boisestate.edu/gradcoll/0001.html or from the Creative Writing program).

2. Official transcripts of all post-secondary institutions, showing courses completed and degrees earned. Note: The Boise State University Graduate College and the English Department require a BA in English, with a minimum 2.75 GPA on undergraduate work or a 3.0 for final sixty credit hours.

3. One-time $55 application fee (nonrefundable)

4. Fill out Teaching Assistantship Application.

We cannot process your application until all these materials have been received.

Applicants who do not satisfy one or more of these requirements may be admitted with provisional status. They will be advised as to what steps they need to qualify for regular status.
