Negotiation skills are useful for staff at all levels of an organization and essential for managers. Participants will learn to address situations that require the ability to flex between competitive and collaborative approaches. You can improve negotiation results with skills to identify and adapt to different bargaining assumptions and goals.

Topics Include:

  • Understand the strategic applications of competitive and collaborative negotiation styles
  • Learn tactics unique to win-lose and win-win negotiation
  • Strategically select negotiation tactics appropriate to the situation

Presenter:

Suzanne McCorkle, Ph.D. Professor, Boise State University Public Policy Department, College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs

Dr. McCorkle currently is the Director of Boise State's Office of Conflict Management Services and the Conflict Resolution Certificate Program.  She earned her doctorate in Communication from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Dr. McCorkle has an active consulting, training, and speaking practice in which she specializes in creating systems to prevent conflict, conflict management, mediation, and public speaking.  She is a skilled facilitator and has experience developing boards of directors and top management.  Among her many clients throughout Idaho are:  Micron Technology, Idaho Sate Department of Human Resources, Idaho Department of Commerce, Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, J.R. Simplot Company, and Magic Valley Regional Medical Center.  In 2002, Dr. McCorkle received the Peacemaker of the Year award from the Idaho Mediation Association.
