Certificate in Refugee Services Foundation

The Certificate in Refugee Services Foundation is offered in the Fall and Spring semester of each year. Three noncredit, CEU-eligible courses comprise the Certificate in Refugee Services Foundation, and prepare participants with the basic knowledge and skills to assist in the resettlement experience for refugees.

Note: This certification is also offered for credit through Boise State University. Please contact Kathy Tidwell at 426-5837 if you want more information.


The three courses are:

Principles of Refugee Resettlement

This course explores the resettlement process in the United States and provides the knowledge and skills needed to assist refugees with the resettlement experience. It also examines personal values and beliefs and their impact on practice.

Tuesday nights, 6 p.m.-8:45 p.m., August 28, 2012 through December 11, 2012.

Working With Refugees Across Cultures

This course provides a framework and skills practice for effective and competent cross-cultural practice with refugees in the human services.

Wednesday nights, 6 p.m.-8:45 p.m., August 29, 2012 through December 12, 2012.

Case Management With Refugees

This course teaches case management knowledge and skills as applied in refugee servicing agencies such as refugee resettlement, health settings and mental health agencies.

Who Should Enroll to receive a Certificate in Refugee Services Foundation:

Individuals working in Human Service Programs where refugees would be seeking services would benefit from attending this course. This includes:

  • Resettlement staff
  • Social workers in any setting serving refugees
  • School personnel serving refugee children and families
  • Medical staff in both outpatient and inpatient settings
  • Parks and recreation staff and other programs serving children
  • Child welfare staff
  • Mental health workers
  • Food and income support program staff
  • Housing staff
  • Corrections, etc.

Fees:

$1,200 for all three courses taken together. Or $425 for each course taken separately.
