Boise State Study Tours Program

China, France, Germany, England, Mexico, Spain, and New York City are just a few of the exciting destinations of the educational tours that Extended Studies has coordinated through the Study Tours program.



A variety of study tours are offered in the summer, fall and spring.

Open to the general public, students, alumni and any interested individuals, Boise State’s educational study tours are held in the United States, Europe, Asia, Canada and Mexico. Led by Boise State University faculty, each tour has a particular subject area focus that is mixed in with general sightseeing tours with local guides.


Upcoming Study Tours include:

Prague, Vienna and Budapest: A Cultural Journey through Europe’s Imperial Cities


May 15-24, 2008
Faculty: Del Parkinson, Professor of Music, Boise State University

Join Boise State University’s educational study tour to Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. Explore Prague Castle, stroll the ancient winding cobblestone streets, marvel at the beautifully preserved palaces near the medieval Charles Bridge, and mix with the locals in Wenceslas Square. Walk through old Vienna, admire masterpieces in the Fine Arts Museum, observe a training session of the Spanish Riding School, and visit the Hofburg imperial palace and the summer home at Schönbrunn. In Budapest, cruise the Danube River, enjoy the views from Castle Hill and the Royal Palace, and savor a Hungarian goulash dinner with gypsy music and folklore show. Throughout the journey, enjoy carefully selected world-class performances of music, ballet, and opera (such as Tosca, La Traviata, and Carmen). The $4,000 cost includes roundtrip airfare from Boise, eight nights hotel accommodations, dinners, tickets to performances, admission charges, guided tours to cultural and historical sites and more.


Mexico: Spanish Language Immersion, Culture and History


February 3-16, 2008

Immerse yourself in Mexican culture for two weeks in the beautiful, traditional colonial city of Cuernavaca, Mexico. Study Spanish at a first-rate language school. Meet the people. Enjoy weekend and weekday excursions to surrounding cultural and historical areas. The program includes language study, classes in Mexican History and Culture, homestays with Mexican families, overnight excursions to Mexico City as well as other guided tours in the area. The $2,500 cost includes roundtrip airfare from Boise, two weeks instructions and homestays, international medical/accident insurance, books and handouts, and much more.


New York City: Theatre and Music


Spring Break, March 24-30, 2008
Faculty: Del Parkinson, Professor of Music, Boise State University

View the skyline from a cruise around Manhattan. Visit Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. Bask in masterworks exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Watch a space show in the planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History. Observe a New York Philharmonic open rehearsal at Lincoln Center. Attend world-class performances of carefully selected theatre and music, heightened by informal discussions tailored to accommodate all levels of interest. Shows include: Jersey Boys, Young Frankenstein, The Little Mermaid, Grease, Legally Blonde and A Catered Affair.

Examples of past Study Tours include:


• Vienna and Prague "Sound of Music" tour, where tour members enjoyed world-class performances of music, opera, and ballet

• Mexican Legends: Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera tour, included visits to museums and the home of the artists in Mexico City

• New York City Theatre and Music tour, where tour members were treated to a backstage pass at the Metropolitan Opera, Broadway plays, and art in the Metropolitan Museum of Art


Other tour location have included Greece, London, Barcelona and Northern Spain, Italy and Scotland.

Educational discussions/lectures are informal and tailored to accommodate all levels of interset. Participants also have the option of signing up to earn credits.
