GEM Hi-Tech Scholarships
Description
GEM Scholarships waive non-resident tuition for new graduate students with a GPA of at least 3.0 who are accepted into designated Hi-Tech graduate programs, a savings of approximately $8,500*. There is no separate application process. If an applicant is accepted into a GEM-eligible graduate program, then Graduate Admission and Degree Services alerts the Financial Aid Office, which makes the offer to the student. GEM Scholarships are awarded for one year and may be renewed for one additional year if the student takes at least 16 graduate credits in his/her first two semesters and maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0. Two years is the maximum award period.
To be eligible for a GEM Hi-Tech Scholarship a student must:
- Be a new student (individuals who have attended Boise State University previously, either as an undergraduate or a graduate student, are not eligible)
- Have a permanent residence outside the State of Idaho (both international students and US citizens are eligible)
- Have a GPA as an undergraduate of 3.0 or higher
- Be accepted into a Hi-Tech graduate program (see the list of Hi-Tech programs, below)

*Tuition and fees for a non-resident, full-time graduate student at Boise State University are approximately $15,300 per academic year. With a GEM Scholarship this amount is reduced by approximately $8,500 to equal resident tuition and fees (about $6,800 per academic year). (If the student can demonstrate possession of health insurance equal to that provided by the university, he/she can save an additional $1,300).
