Spiritual Health

Spiritual wellness involves exploring meaning and purpose in human existence. It includes the development of a deep appreciation for the depth and expansiveness of life and natural forces that exist in the universe. It may also involve exploring feelings of unity with your environment and oneness with others and nature. The ability to understand and express one's purpose in life is often another dimension of spiritual health.

    What is Spiritual Health?
Spirituality refers to an intense, personal, awe-based concern for questions about life and meaning. Spirituality is an acknowledgement of the factors and core needs of all people. Religion can be a pathway to spirituality, but you do not need to be affiliated with a religion to be spiritual.

The first step in developing values and spiritual wellness is to examine your own values: respect, honesty, human life, family, education, religion, health, wealth, community service and diversity. Discuss your values with others and work to act in a manner congruent with your values.

The National Wellness Institute says spiritual wellness follows the following tenants:

*It is better to ponder the meaning of life for ourselves and to be tolerant of the beliefs of others than to close our minds and become intolerant.

*It is better to live each day in a way that is consistent with our values and beliefs than to do otherwise and feel untrue to ourselves.

As a result, the thymus gland is stimulated to better carry out elevated immune function. In other words, your immune system can be bolstered by feelings of faith, hope and happiness.
