"Now as far as the attitude of the people around here, they never showed any attitude towards any of the Chinamen or the Negroes and so forth. Of course, there were not many Negroes in this section at that time, because down at Caldwell, they wouldn't let a Negro off the railroad and they wouldn't do it in Weiser. Those early settlers were mostly Southerners and they didn't want any Negroes around. And the same thing here."
