The Turnverein Building (pronounced toorn-fair-ine) on the southeast corner of Sixth and Main Streets is a rare reminder of 711 German-Americans listed under Boise in the 1910 census. Built in 1906, the brick and sandstone building was intended to house a German health and athletic club. In 1915, during an international wave of anti-German protest, the Boise Turnvereins dissolved the club.
