Driving and Traffic in Boise, circa late 1930s
From the Idaho State Historical Societies Oral History collection OH2211. Boise citizen Rosemary Powell recalls the simple days of drivers training.
“When I was 21 I bought a car. The salesman, Mr. Ash, took me out to—drove it out to Hill Road and put me behind the wheel. And I drove up and down Hill Road, and then I drove back to the shop where I got it. That’s the only—I was a driver and I drove all over. Well, there was no traffic. It wasn’t dangerous for a nincompoop like I was to be riding around, but there wasn’t that much traffic.”
