Q: I plugged my computer in with an Ethernet cable and I can't get on the Internet.
A: First, insure you have followed the Internet Access Instructions carefully. Depending on which residence hall or apartment you are in you may have more than one port in your room. Please see Network Troubleshooting for more details.
Q: What is SafeConnect and how do I install it?
A: SafeConnect is a program required to gain Internet Access on the Boise State University Network. SafeConnect only ensures you have your computer's antivirus and Windows Updates up to date. Information about installing and connecting to SafeConnect.
Q: Where can I purchase a cable to connect to the Internet?
A: The cable that connects from your computer to an Internet source (wall jack/router/modem) is called an Ethernet cable or CAT 5 cable. You can purchase an Ethernet cable at the BroncoTec store located in the Student Union Building. You can also purchase Ethernet cables at Best Buy, RJM or any computer store.
Q: My computer has a virus. Who do I contact to help clean my computer?
A: Contact your front desk and have them schedule an appointment with one of our technicians.
Q: Can I set up a wireless router?
A: Wireless routers and switches are now allowed to be plugged into any of our networks in University Housing residences. The only requirement is that all routers are required to have a minimum of WEP encryption installed. No open access is allowed.
