When mom said, “Don’t Play with Balls in the House” she meant it. Bouncing a basketball or tennis ball at 2am isn’t as fun for your sleeping neighbors as it might seem to you.
9. Smile. Just by smiling and saying hello, you can really make your neighbor’s day.
8. Bake some cookies (or have Mom do it!) Sharing something personal shows appreciation and kindness that will be repaid.
7. Start a new tradition. By including your neighbors in a new tradition you have will help forge a friendship and build respect towards one another.
6. Offer to help. With homework, watching the kids, bringing in the groceries, or holding the door.
5. Turn down the music! No one likes a shaking floor and walls especially when you are rocking out to old school Spice Girls. So, while you may love Baby Spice’s rockin’ ways, remember they did go out of style 10 years ago.
4. Lead by example. Take out your trash, study hard and often, limit procrastination, eat well, exercise often, and don’t take life too seriously.
3. Clean your space! You shouldn’t open your door and have a green noxious death cloud come out your room. So keep your space clean and do your laundry more than once a semester.
2. Limit your shower! Sometimes there is a line waiting for the shower, so make sure you aren’t hogging all the hot water while you sing the whole Rent soundtrack.
1. SHOW ME THE MONEY! Next time you are heading to the late night drive-through, offer a ride or be even cooler and ask if your neighbor wants anything to eat. They will feel forever in your debt.

6. Be fair to your roommate…..keep PDA (that means “public displays of affection” for the not so text savvy) to a minimum when they are around.
5. Build trust with your roommate and community members by keeping confidential information to yourself – gossip and rumors can hurt individuals and community.
4. Be spontaneous and take out the trash/recycling even when it’s not your turn.
