Campaign Gift Highlights:
Boise State is delighted to welcome Battelle Energy Alliance to our family of donors with their generous gift to support the Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math (STEM) Summer Institute.
The Jeollabuk-Do Provencial Office provided generous funds to host visiting teachers from Korea for summer workshops led by the Literacy Department in the College of Education.
Thanks to Coach “Pete” and Barbara Petersen for their wonderful commitment to the building fund for the College of Business and Economics.
Thanks to all the people who renewed their memberships in the Bronco Athletic Association, Boise State Alumni Association, and Boise State Public Radio station. Your charitable contributions to these entities also are part of the Destination Distinction campaign.

Volunteer Profile
After
graduating from Capital High School in 1967, Ernie Hoidal
attended the newly named Boise College (later Boise State
College) for two years before heading down to the University
of San Francisco to earn a bachelor’s degree in international
business; he later earned a law degree. Now a Boise attorney, Hoidal specializes
in general practice and immigration law. He appreciated his experience at Boise
State, both in the classroom and at Bronco Stadium, where he watched Lyle Smith
coach his final season of Bronco football.
Hoidal is paying it back in full. A member of the Bronco Athletic Association since 1977, he is a former BAA president and still serves on the BAA endowment committee. In addition, he has served on the Foundation board since 2004 and is chair of the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs advisory board.
Both Ernie and his wife Carol Hoidal (a former Alumni Association president and recipient of an alumni service award) believe in the importance of scholarships. In fact, they have established four to date: one each in business and history; an engineering scholarship named for Carol’s parents, Don and Edithe Barclay; and an education scholarship named for Ernie’s parents, Bert and Mary Ellen Hoidal.
“Carol and I feel fortunate to have been involved at Boise State and are thrilled to see how it has progressed in both academics and athletics,” Ernie said. “There is no higher responsibility for any community or state government than to provide educational opportunities for everyone.”
Hoidal is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and has been an adjunct lecturer in legal studies at Boise State since 1985. He also is in his second summer of teaching a class on immigration law and policy for the master’s degree program in public policy.
Building a Lasting Legacy
In honor of the many individuals who support the university
with an annual gift of $1,000 or more, a new recognition program called the
President’s Club was recently unveiled.
In addition to assisting Boise State in achieving its goals, President’s Club members enjoy the following courtesies:
Recent alumni are eligible for membership in the President’s Club by contributing at specific annual gift levels based on years since graduation: $250 or more one to four years after graduation, and $500 or more five to nine years after graduation.
Individuals who give $25,000 or more annually become President’s Partners. Additional courtesies of President’s Partner membership include:
Recognition also is granted through the Chaffee Guild for lifetime cumulative giving of $100,000 or more, and The Society of 1932, recognizing individuals who make deferred gift commitments (estate plan gifts, life income arrangements, life insurance, etc.) to benefit Boise State.

Auction 2009
A total of 540 participants and more than 40 volunteers combined
to make Auction 2009 a huge success. The event was held May 9 at the Boise
Centre on The Grove. Mark Johnson served as emcee and Larry Flynn was auctioneer.
This year’s auction raised more than $300,000 to support Academic Legacy Scholarships and the Athletic Scholarship Endowment. A big thank you to Lyle Smith, his wife Eleanor and their family for traveling to attend the event. Smith was recognized for his dedication to and impact on Boise State. He was honored with a standing ovation when he got up to address the crowd.
Appreciation also is extended to former Bronco and current Green Bay Packer Korey Hall, who attended as a guest of Higgins & Rutledge Insurance and helped in fundraising efforts, and to Alumni board member Greg Chavez and BAA board member Pam Casey for co-chairing this year’s event.

Radiology Open House
Boise
State’s Department of Radiologic Sciences celebrated 30 years of success with
an open house on Thursday, May 21. Well attended by alumni of the program,
area radiology professionals and interested friends, the event showcased new
radiographic equipment obtained in part through generous funding from friends
Richard and Patsy Fedrizzi.
Dr. Jim Girvan, dean of the College of Health Sciences, welcomed guests, assisted by college development director Barb Myhre. Department chair Darlene Travis and students Natasha Niver, Stephen Meerdink, Hollie Baltazar, Valerie Bedke, Krista Bybee and Charlie Drapanes hosted the open house and provided demonstrations of the new equipment in curricular, laboratory and research activities.
With the help of faculty member Joie Burns, attendees were able to use sonography equipment to image a fetal phantom. In addition, a walking tour through the laboratory showcased the activities generated by faculty members Scott Staley, Leslie Kendrick, and Lorrie Kelley. Special thanks to Sue Antonich and Leslie Black for their help in organizing the event.
