Computer & Network Privacy/Security

Computer and network privacy and security issues at Boise State revolve around three fundamental principles: Availability, Integrity, and Confidentiality

Availability

All systems and information resources must be "up and running" as needed by the University. Denial of Service attacks impact user confidence, productivity, and increase costs. Reliability of our information systems and network are essential to our work and the University's educational, research, and service missions.

Integrity

This principle strives to ensure that information is not modified or altered intentionally or by accident, whether it is data or a program. Our university data must remain accurate and complete. Software applications can only perform their jobs effectively and reliably when both the data and the applications have integrity.

Confidentiality

Simply put, keeping private information private. Some information we maintain is private because of legal reasons, such as some HR data. Other information is private because it is not complete or is being developed. A thesis, article or other document improperly released before being finished can ruin months of work and cause problems for the document creator and the University. Also, intellectual property, such as copyrighted documents and software, must be properly and responsibly managed.
