Conditional Admissions to Boise State University

The university's academic admission requirement for international students is a TOEFL score of 500 for undergraduate programs (173 for computer-based test)* and 550 for graduate programs (240 for computer-based test). Students may be admitted with a conditional admission which allows time for improvement in the English language.

To determine if you have sufficient English to succeed in courses taught at Boise State University, you will need to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

International undergraduate students who have achieved a TOEFL score over 450 (133 computer-based test) but less than 500 (173 computer-based test) and who have the appropriate academic qualifications can be admitted to Boise State University on a conditional admissions basis, with the following requirements:

1. The student must attend Boise State University’s Intensive English Program on a full-time basis for at least one semester until such time as he/she has achieved the required TOEFL score (or equivalent test score as defined by the University).

2. If the student’s English skills require a second semester in the Intensive English Program, with the advisor’s permission, the student may also register for up to 7 academic credits (for credit or audit) on a non-degree-seeking status, in addition to participating in the Intensive English Program.
