Dr. Linda Kline Lamar
Associate Professor of Viola and Music Theory at Boise State University, and faculty member at the Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory in Steamboat Springs, CO, holds viola performance degrees from Northwestern University, The Cleveland Institute of Music, and The University of Memphis, where she earned her DMA in 2002. Her teachers include Heidi Castleman, Patrick Connolly, Lenny Schranze, and Peter Slowik.
Dr. Kline Lamar performs regular recitals throughout the country. Recent performances include a solo recital in Memphis, and collaborations with faculty at the Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory, the Blakemore Trio, and the Darkwood Consort. In February of 2008 she will be presenting a program of twentieth century solo viola works in Boise and Seattle. She performs regularly with the IRIS Chamber Orchestra (Memphis) and the Boise Philharmonic, and has performed with Strings in the Mountains, the Memphis Symphony, Boise Baroque Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Erie Philharmonic, the Youngstown Symphony, the Spoleto Festival Orchestra, the Aspen Festival Orchestra, and the Garth Newel Chamber Orchestra.
She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda Honors Society in Music, and is also an active member of the American String Teacher’s Association and the American Viola Society (she co-founded and is president of the Idaho chapter). She is also a frequent adjudicator, and has presented clinics and master classes across the country. In 2006 she presented at the National Conference of the American String Teachers Association in Kansas City.
A recipient of two faculty appreciation awards at BSU, Dr. Kline Lamar has also received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Idaho Commission on the Arts for the Boise Chamber Music Society, and from the BSU College of Arts and Sciences for a viola practice techniques booklet. She is also the recipient of The University of Memphis Graduate Document Award for her dissertation.
Her students have received awards for research and performances in competitions, and have attended summer festivals across the country and abroad. Current and former students have won positions in the Boise Philharmonic. Her students have received scholarships to attend such music schools as the Oberlin Conservatory, the Peabody Conservatory, Michigan State University, The University of Memphis, Arizona State University, the University of Colorado-Boulder, DePaul University, Vanderbilt University, the Lawrence Conservatory, and the San Francisco Conservatory.
