Dr. Laura Rushing-Raynes
soprano, has appeared on concert, recital and opera stages in the
United States, Great Britain, and Mexico. A critically acclaimed performer
with a large and varied concert repertoire, she is the recipient of
numerous awards for her musical and scholastic activities including
the San Francisco Opera Auditions and the National Association of Teachers
of Singing Artist Auditions. Her operatic repertoire includes Adina
(LElisir dAmore), Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Despina
(Cosi fan tutte), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Emily (Help! Help! The Globolinks!),
Micaela (Carmen), and Valencienne (Merry Widow). Most recently, she
sang Pamina (Magic Flute) for Opera Idaho.
In 1998, Dr. Rushing-Raynes moved from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa to Boise State University. Many of her students have won honors in National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) auditions, scholarships to universities and colleges, and tuition awards for graduate voice study. She has studied pedagogy with leading voice pedagogues including Richard Miller and Shirlee Emmons. She holds an undergraduate performance degree in voice and violin from the University of Northern Colorado and masters and doctorate degrees in voice performance and pedagogy from the University of Arizona. At Boise State, she teaches graduate and undergraduate voice, courses in vocal pedagogy, and is Music Director of the Opera Theatre.
