Dr. Andy Goodman
is Associate Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning. He is also an Associate Professor of Music Education at Boise State University. He has taught elementary and graduate music education, graduate foundations, and graduate research as well as supervising student teachers. His degrees are from Concordia Teacher’s College in Seward, Nebraska (B.S. in Music Ed), Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri (M.S. in Secondary Ed – Music), and the University of Illinois – Champaign/Urbana (Ed.D. in General Music Education).
He is an active clinician in music education, specifically the teacher preparation and the Orff approach to classroom music. He has been a presenter at the Kennedy Center Arts Education Institutes in New Orleans and has taught recorder for Orff Schulwerk certification throughout the Midwest. He served as the Louisiana Music Educators Association Collegiate Chair for the last three years as well as Chairman of the Louisiana John Lennon/BMI Composition competition held through the Music Educator’s National Conference. He is published in General Music Today and Southern Music Education Journal.
Dr. Goodman’s research interests are focused on teacher preparation. He completed work as Curriculum Designer for the ARTS to the Delta Project bringing music education to at-risk students via the Internet. This project was a coalition of the Technology Opportunities Program, National Telecommunications & Information Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, the Monroe Louisiana Chamber of Commerce, the University of Louisiana at Monroe, as well as three public and two private school districts in Louisiana. This latest research indicates students who are taught conceptual music education through video conferencing equipment score significantly higher on standardized achievement test batteries than students who receive traditional or no music education. To support his research, Dr. Goodman has received over $1.5 million in local, state and federal grants.
