Canada Week Features Speech by Canadian Ambassador to U.S., Variety of Events

Boise State’s Canadian Studies Program presents the sixth annual Canada Week April 2-6. The weeklong event is aimed at a better understanding of Canadian commerce, politics, public policy and culture, as well as the U.S.-Canada relationship. Canada Week features an address by the Canadian Ambassador to the U.S., a full-length film, presentations by Canadian speakers on the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, border security, urban planning and more. Events are held on the Boise State campus and are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Oh! CanadaThe United States and Canada share the longest undefended border in the world (5,500 miles). Canada is the United States’ top trading partner (and Idaho’s No. 2 trading partner) and its largest supplier of energy (crude oil, natural gas, electricity). The Ambassador Bridge, which connects Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, carries more trade each year than any other border crossing in the world.

Boise State’s Pi Kappa Delta
Chapter Earns Medal for Video

The Pi Kappa Delta national forensics honorary society awarded Boise State a silver medal in the Oral History Video competition at the organization’s national convention held in Mount Pleasant, Mich., earlier this month.

The video history, produced by Boise State’s Pi Kappa Delta chapter in conjunction with University Television Productions, chronicles the involvement in speech and debate of Bethine Church and her late husband, U.S. Senator Frank Church. Bethine Church competed in debate and speech for the Boise Junior College forensics team in the 1940s. Sen. Church won the national American Legion Oratorical Contest in 1941 and was a champion debater at Boise High School and Stanford University. After graduating from Stanford Law School, he returned to Boise and was an adjunct instructor teaching speech and debate courses at Boise Junior College. The video highlights Sen. and Bethine Church’s lifelong passion for and support of speech and debate education.
