Student Union

Keeping it Green in the Student Union

Six years ago, the Student Union started turning greener. And just like orange and blue, green is a very important color. As sustainability in the SUB continues to increase, operating costs and consumerism decreases, but best of all, the environment benefits, becoming a safer, healthier place for everyone. It’s a chain reaction.

In 2000, for example, water-cooled food service refrigerators were replaced with an air-cooled system, saving thousands of gallons of water annually. In 2003, the Green Cleaning Program was initiated, replacing more than 40 cleaning chemicals with friendlier products. Motion-activated paper towel dispensers have also made a difference in reducing paper waste, as well as paper costs.
