HEALTH ALERT
Travel Restrictions to Mexico Lifted
Boise State health and safety officials have lifted the travel restriction to Mexico for university-sponsored trips effective immediately. The travel health warning was issued in late April as a preventive measure prompted by the spread of the H1N1 flu virus.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has downgraded its warning that U.S. travelers avoid non-essential trips to Mexico to a precaution. The CDC continues to recommend that travelers visiting Mexico take steps to protect themselves from getting H1N1. The latest information is available from the H1N1 Web page.
International travelers to an area that has reported cases of the flu virus are advised to check with their airlines and the U.S. embassy in the destination country to see if there are any delays in entering these countries.

Sign up for Walking Rally
Teams
are now being formed for the June Walking Rally, a competition that emphasizes
physical activity, teamwork and fun. The event is from noon to 1 p.m.
June 17. Even if you participated in a past Walking Rally you must sign
up again on the Health, Wellness and Counseling Services Web
site.
Create Walking Rally teams with your coworkers — teams can be from three to five people. Each team will be given a list of clues of locations around the Boise State campus (make sure one member of your team brings a digital camera). The team that finds the most locations within the hour time limit wins a prize. The individual with the most steps during the rally also wins a prize.
The day of the event, meet in front of Health, Wellness and Counseling Services to receive your clues and a pedometer. Don’t forget to bring an umbrella or raincoat in case of inclement weather.
IN MEMORIAM
Service for Roxanne Gunner is Today
Roxanne
Gunner (right) died of cancer May 27 at the age of 47. She worked for
Boise State for 20 years in various positions on campus, including in
Training and Development, the Student Employment Office, the College of Health
Sciences and the College of Education. She was working as an instructor
for the College of Applied Technology when she retired due to health
issues.
A former member of the Women’s Center Advisory Board, Gunner earned both a BBA in human resources and an MBA from Boise State. She was granted emeritus status in 2008.
“Roxanne was one of those souls who enriched the lives of those whose paths connected with her, even for a short time,” said Norma Kindall, administrative assistant in the College of Engineering. “I am grateful to have been one of those enriched.”
Funeral services are at 4 p.m. today at Cathedral of the Rockies, 717 N. 11th St. in Boise. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to MSTI or to an account set up at Bank of the Cascades for her children’s college fund.
GETTING TO KNOW GOOGLE APPS
New Features in Google Docs
Google has released several new features for Google Docs this past week, including the often-requested ability to import Word 2007(.docx) and Office 2007 (.xlsx) file formats.
(If you haven't upgraded to Microsoft Office 2007, or Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac, the cost is free for University-owned computers via the university's Microsoft site license. Contact the OIT Help Desk or your local area or college net admin to upgrade.)
In addition, Google Docs now supports several new gadgets for Google Spreadsheet data visualization:
- Tree Map Gadget (a color-coded area diagram that helps you understand complicated hierarchical data at a glance)
- Word Cloud Gadget (visualize the popularity of words from large amounts of text)
- Spider Chart Gadget (visually compare the values of multiple attributes)
- QR Code Gadget (quickly encode data into the QR code format from a Google Docs spreadsheet so that it can be scanned and read by mobile devices that have a QR code reader)
- Flash Cards (easily create flashcard sets)
- Word Study (create interactive word games)
- Word Search (create an interactive word search from a column of words in a spreadsheet)
To use Google Spreadsheet Gadgets, create a new spreadsheet in Google Docs and choose Insert > Gadgets. More details on the gadgets listed above are available on Google’s Web site.
