Donors Build a Lasting Legacy

Even in these tough economic times, Boise State’s Destination Distinction comprehensive campaign continues to progress toward success. Donations to date are at $107.88 million, or almost 62 percent of the $175 million goal. In honor of the many individuals who have supported the campaign, and ultimately the university, with an annual gift of $1,000 or more, the Boise State University Foundation recently unveiled a new recognition program called the President’s Club.

“We’re very excited about this new program because it underscores a commitment to excellence that has been expressed by our many financial supporters at all levels of giving,” said Howard Smith, vice president for university advancement. “Gifts to the university provide opportunities for student scholarship support, expanded academic programming and creation of cutting-edge labs and classrooms. Especially in difficult economic circumstances, donor support is key to building a metropolitan research university of distinction.”

Members of the President’s Club help support the success of people, places and programs at Boise State. Recent alumni are eligible for membership in the President’s Club by contributing at specific annual gift levels based on years since graduation: $250 or more one to four years after graduation, and $500 or more five to nine years after graduation.

HEALTH ALERT

Travel Restrictions to Mexico Lifted

Boise State health and safety officials have lifted the travel restriction to Mexico for university-sponsored trips effective immediately. The travel health warning was issued in late April as a preventive measure prompted by the spread of the H1N1 flu virus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has downgraded its warning that U.S. travelers avoid non-essential trips to Mexico to a precaution. The CDC continues to recommend that travelers visiting Mexico take steps to protect themselves from getting H1N1. The latest information is available from the H1N1 Web page.

International travelers to an area that has reported cases of the flu virus are advised to check with their airlines and the U.S. embassy in the destination country to see if there are any delays in entering these countries.

Sign up for Walking Rally

Walking Rally LogoTeams are now being formed for the June Walking Rally, a competition that emphasizes physical activity, teamwork and fun. The event is from noon to 1 p.m. June 17. Even if you participated in a past Walking Rally you must sign up again on the Health, Wellness and Counseling Services Web site.

Create Walking Rally teams with your coworkers — teams can be from three to five people. Each team will be given a list of clues of locations around the Boise State campus (make sure one member of your team brings a digital camera). The team that finds the most locations within the hour time limit wins a prize. The individual with the most steps during the rally also wins a prize.

The day of the event, meet in front of Health, Wellness and Counseling Services to receive your clues and a pedometer. Don’t forget to bring an umbrella or raincoat in case of inclement weather.
