Affinity Groups

For Osher Members!

Topics often lend themselves to further discussion among Osher members after a class has ended. Sometimes members share a special interest that they would like to pursue with other members in an informal manner, without a teacher. We encourage both extended discussions and special interest groups – we call such sessions Affinity Groups.

Thus far, we have initiated three Affinity Groups:

• One relating to writing life histories
• One for readers focused on local authors and their books
• One centered on gardening, will begin meeting in the spring and will focus their efforts on beautifying the courtyard at the Ron and Linda Yanke Research Park where the Institute meets

We anticipate that Affinity Groups will meet at the Yanke facility for a few months. Then, once established, will continue to meet in the homes of members of the group, thus making space for other affinity groups to meet at the facility.

In addition to allowing members to pursue interests with like-minded members, Affinity Groups offer the opportunity to get to know other members of the Institute on a more personal basis. Affinity groups are established and led by members with assistance from the Osher staff.

If you have ideas for an Affinity Group and/or would be willing to lead one, please contact Buddy Howell, our Volunteer Coordinator, at 426-3718. As we receive requests for different groups we will post them in the newsletter.
