On the Trail of Lewis and Clark
Archeologists use the Corps of Discovery journals and William Clark’s maps to locate the route that the expedition traveled and the campsites they utilized. Join us as Christopher Hill explains how archeologists proceed as they draw information from these sources. This lecture is courtesy of the Idaho Botanical Gardens. Show your Osher Institute membership card at the gate for admittance.

Idaho and Wines
What grapes grow well in Idaho and which make the very best wines? How does one effectively taste and evaluate wines? Join us at the Botanical Garden as Ted Judd shares his knowledge of growing grapes, the process of wine making, and appropriate ways to taste wine. Learn more at: http://www.idahowine.com. Managing the Boise River, Parks and Greenbelt
Anticipate a lecture/discussion focused on the disparate parts of river and parks management—from quality of life issues to environmental and recreational impacts upon the land and waterways to the restraints imposed by budgets. Learn how the past and present use of our parks and river will impact the future. Gain an understanding of the proposed River Recreation Park as well as plans for the greenbelt and the “Ribbon of Jewels”—the parks that line the Boise River.
Following the lecture Ralph Budwig will provide a demonstration of the flume at the Idaho Water Center. The flume is a large computer driven devise that can mimic waterways and water flows and predict impact of changes made to the water flow and river environment. It was used to gauge the impact of the proposed whitewater park on the Boise River.

Parking: Parking is available in the city fee lots, known as Avenue A East and Avenue A West Parking Garages, below and adjacent to the Water Center. CCDC charges an hourly rate of $1.50. Visitors must take a ticket upon entry and pay for their parking upon exiting
Globalization/Corporatization
Learn of the rise of the modern corporation in the 17th Century and its evolution to its current form as economist Larry Reynolds traces the major events shaping this Institution. Examine legal and economic factors that have resulted in major changes in the roles and power of corporations. Discuss alternative views of the relationship of the corporate structure to the operation of world markets.

Evening Lecture:
Boise State Football Coach Chris Petersen
Coach Chris Petersen will address the Osher Institute audience on May 21, at 7:00, in the Bronco Football Complex. The coach will focus on the psychology he uses as he works with this coaching staff and how his players and on how current technology has impacted the game of football rather than on the game strategies he employs. But he will entertain questions as well for those of you interested in that aspect of his work.
Parking: Osher Institute will be able to provide parking privileges for this session.
