Osher Institute Membership Information

Billed as a spa for the mind, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is a membership-based program for the adult community, offering a series of lectures, noncredit courses, and special events.

The Institute is offered through Boise State University’s Division of Extended Studies and in cooperation with local organizations. It is open to anyone wishing to participate.

General Information

Participation is open to any adult who wants to become a member.

Membership includes seating at lectures in the independent lecture series and the opportunity to register for the Institute’s short-term courses. There is an additional fee for each of the short courses because the Institute incurs additional cost for the courses.

To enable members to introduce their friends to Osher Institute, members are welcome to bring a guest free of charge to any of the lecture series presentations:

• Please phone a week ahead (208-426-1709) to reserve a seat for your guest.

• Members are welcome to bring a different guest to each lecture session, but each non-member guest is limited to one visit per season.

The Social Events
Members are also invited to the Institute’s social events.

Membership Fees

The Institute currently offers fall and spring seasons.

• For one season (fall or spring) – $35

• For two successive seasons– $55


Special Reduced Membership Rates
(For a two-season membership)

• Boise State Alumni Association members– $50

• Emeritus Guild Members– $50

• AAA Members– $50

Membership fees cover the cost of seating in lecture series presentations and allow registration for classes for which there is an additional fee. While Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is a member-based program featuring classes and events especially for the registered participants, members are encouraged to bring interested guests to the lecture series presentations.

Scholarship Program

Osher Institute Lecture/Course Proposals

The Osher Institute invites those interested in presenting a lecture or teaching a class to prepare a brief proposal using the form provided. The proposal form requests a brief description of the course or lecture and a short biographical sketch. All proposals will be reviewed as we work to plan a balanced and interesting selection of topics, courses and lectures.

**NOTE: You will need Adobe's Acrobat Reader to view and print the proposal form. Acrobat Reader is free and downloadable from Adobe.

Please submit your completed proposal form any of the following ways:

Something New for Members!

Members interested in learning more about current research directions of the University are invited to brown bag lunches with faculty to be held in the Johnson Room at the Student Union (just behind the food court) on the third Friday of the month from noon-1:00 P.M.
• There is no charge, but please call to register, (208) 426-1709.
• Seating is limited to 15.
• Parking is available in the pay lot behind the Student Union building located on the corner of University Dr. and Lincoln Avenue.
