Homework:Mastering Physics Homework is on the web at http://www.masteringphysics.com; it is correlated with the
class lectures and must be completed as scheduled on the web in order to facilitate classroom discussions.
NO EXCEPTIONS TO THE HOMEWORK SCHEDULE ARE PERMITTED

Final:Comprehensive review exam.

Goals:The following goals are based on criteria set by the Boise State Core Curriculum Committee

Critical Thinking/Problem-Solving Skills : Identify and analyze problems in the physical sciences by learning what the laws are and then applying reasoning to a physical situation and determine what the results of certain actions will be. The will be practiced both in thought situations such as the exercises at the ends of the chapters and in lab.

Communication Skills: Communication skills will be strengthened by reading, writing lab reports, and verbal communication in asking and answering questions in class.

Cultural Perspective: There will not be much development in this area; however, some references will be made to the times the scientists lived to some extent, the influence the society of the time had on the development of the ideas being put forth. There will be some references to the effects of technology on society and also that of society on technology.

Breadth of Knowledge and Intellectual Perspective: Since this course is for non-science majors, it will add to the general knowledge of the students by introducing them to the basics of physics and to a certain extent, the impact of scientific discoveries on society and our way of life. Students should become more aware of the physical world and how it works. There will also be a better appreciation of how scientific discoveries are made.
