Task Force on Campus Climate

"Campus climate" can best be defined as the prevailing conditions of our learning and working environments. A university that cares about its students and employees makes an effort to ensure that the climate on campus is one of inclusiveness, civility, respect, and appreciation for the differences of others. Boise State has made a healthy campus climate an essential component to becoming a Metropolitan Research University and has included in our Strategic Plan (Charting the Course) the goal "to provide diverse communities that foster faculty, staff, and student interaction."

Taking a critical look at our campus climate helps us understand how we can improve the interactions we have with each other, how we can make progressive changes in our polices and practices, and how we create a positive sense of community. That is why a 21-member Campus Climate Committee, comprised of faculty, staff, students, and a community member, was commissioned to develop, administer, and analyze the results of this campus wide survey.

It is a fact that in large organizations everyone does not experience the same climate. The results of our survey show that while the overwhelming majority of responding students and employees find our campus to be a good place to learn and work, there are others who may encounter very different experiences.

We hope that you take the time to review the reports compiled from our survey and ask yourself what you can do to improve the climate for those you interact with on our campus. After all, it is how individuals treat individuals that will have the largest impact on our climate.
