CITI Training
What is CITI?
The Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) is an online training program that offers training in human subjects research protections, animal care and use, biosafety, and responsible conduct of research.
Why is CITI training required?
All individuals listed on an IACUC protocol application must undergo education and training in animal use and care in research. An IACUC protocol application will not be approved until all investigators and key personnel have completed this training.
How do I create an account?
- Go to CITI’s homepage, www.citiprogram.org.
- Click on the red link, “New Users Register Here"
- For question 1, choose “Boise State University” from the list of participating institutions.
- Continue with questions 2-7 to create a user name and password.
- Select your curriculum. You will need to choose modules appropriate to your area of research.
Which training modules should I complete?
When selecting your curriculum, you need to choose the learner groups applicable to your research. Th e Animal Care and Use Training is under Question 2.
If you are an investigator or key personnel listed on an IACUC protocol application, choose “Investigators and Key Personnel” to take the “Working with the IACUC” modules. You must also choose all appropriate species-specific and procedure-specific electives.
If you are an IACUC committee member, choose “IACUC Member” to take the "Essentials for IACUC Members" modules. You must also choose ALL species-specific and procedure-specific modules.
In order to successfully pass the training and receive your certification, you must have an overall score of 80% or higher on your quizzes. You may retake these quizzes as many times as necessary to receive a passing score.
Once you have successfully passed the quizzes, your training is complete. A copy of your training certification will automatically be emailed to the ORC. The ORC recommends that you print a copy of this report for your records. You also have the opportunity to complete a voluntary and anonymous satisfaction survey regarding the CITI training.
How long is my certification valid?
The CITI training is valid for three years. After three years, you will need to complete a “refresher course” which will extend your training for an additional two years. After the additional two years, you must retake the entire CITI training course.
