Institutional Review Board (IRB)

WELCOME TO THE IRB HOMEPAGE

Boise State University maintains a Federalwide Assurance of compliance with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) regulations for research involving human participants: Assurance Number: #FWA00000097.  Boise State University assumes responsibility and obligations to ensure all research activity involving human subjects will be regulated under this Assurance, regardless if research activity is funded or unfunded.

What is the IRB?

In accordance with our Federal Wide Assurance, Boise State has established an Institutional Review Board (IRB) to protect the rights and welfare of human subjects recruited to participate in research activities conducted under the auspices of the institution.  The Boise State University IRB is registered with the DHHS Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) as required: IRB Organization (IORG) Number: IORG0000591.

Federal, state and university regulations require all research involving human subjects conducted by Boise State University researchers to be reviewed by the IRB. The Office of Research Compliance provides administrative support.

MEMO: When Does A Class Assignment Require IRB Approval?
In support of its teaching and research mission, the University encourages novel and innovative classroom activities.
