I am very pleased to welcome you to the Division of Research at Boise State. Since assuming the position of Vice President for Research, I have found Boise State to be a vibrant, growing university with great potential. The phrase “Metropolitan Research University of Distinction” is very fitting, since it underscores the centrality of research to the university’s mission. Research is truly the future of this institution, and I share that message whenever and wherever I can.
Why is research so important? Simply put, research enhances the university’s reputation, strengthens the education of its students, and fuels economic growth. A commitment to research is a quality that defines the nature of an institution and distinguishes it as superior. Boise State possesses this commitment, and will continue to reap the benefits of its dedication over time.
My office strives to create a supportive environment for the research enterprise. To that end, we have established a Research Council to gain input from key stakeholders across the campus, and an Office of Research Compliance to help guide researchers as they follow pertinent research policies and procedures. We are also working to diversify our research portfolio by establishing partnerships with businesses in the state and region and we are seeking to better define our areas of research strength. These are just a few of the ways we are working to support research at Boise State.
When I meet with members of the public and private sector on behalf of the university, I’m always eager to share our plans and to promote our research, scholarship and creative activity. It is my hope that the campus, community and state will in turn share my enthusiasm for the highly regarded research conducted here and that we realize the promise it holds in shaping the future of Boise State.
We hope that our website will provide with the information you need regarding research at Boise State. If there is additional information we can provide, please don’t hesitate to contact my office.
Sincerely,
Mark Rudin
Vice President for Research
