Standards for Assignment of New Department IDs and Project Grant Numbers
The OSP uses the following standards when setting up department IDs and associated project grant numbers.
- New department ID numbers will be issued for new awards.
- Supplements and continuations will normally not require a new department ID.
- Supplements and continuations will be added as a separate project grant number if carry forward is restricted on the initial award or if the additional funds must be tracked separately.
- If a new F&A rate is budgeted in supplements or continuations and is approved by the sponsor, a new project grant number will be used.
- A single award that involves multiple colleges and departments will be set up as one department ID with multiple project grant numbers (as needed for internal monitoring and reporting purposes).
- Separate project grant numbers will be used for program income.
- Any time there is an apparent need to separately track funds, a new project grant number will be issued.
