Dear Colleague,

Social workers across the nation are looking to private practice to augment the income they earn in agency settings. To earn a clinical endorsement for independent private practice in Idaho, the Idaho State Board of Social Work Examiners requires licensed social workers to complete 3000 or more hours of post-graduate clinical practice, with 100 or more hours of face-to-face clinical supervision by a licensed clinical social worker, in no less than two years. In view of empirical evidence that social work supervision improves counselor self-efficacy and client outcomes, this regulation establishes a minimum standard for consumer protection.

Unfortunately, many agencies and institutions that provide human services are struggling to survive in the turbulent fiscal environment of the 21st Century. And because the availability of experienced clinical supervision is no longer assured in traditional social work settings, a growing number of licensed social workers have turned to the private sector to purchase clinical supervision.

I have been a supervisor in clinical social work since 1974, and I began offering clinical supervision on a fee-for-service basis in 2002. I have created links to my curriculum vitae to summarize my credentials and experience in social work supervision and clinical practice with adults, adolescents, and children, as well as a selected list of my own supervisors and trainers.

I invite you to call or e-mail me to request more information.

Sincerely yours,

Daniel Harkness
