Intersession is a short, highly condensed term held between the traditional fall and spring semesters. The primary purpose of Intersession is to provide students with an additional opportunity to take required courses and earn credit toward graduation. By planning carefully, students can take courses during the Intersession that will allow them to fulfill graduation requirements and to graduate more quickly. It also presents opportunities for students to study abroad during the Intersession break.
Dates of classroom instruction are December 21, 22, 23, 2009, and January 4-15, 2010.
The University will be closed December 28-January 1. Students might expect to have assignments and readings
during the holidays. January 15 is the scheduled date for final exams for Intersession.
With the flexibility of Intersession, students can…

Students pay the same as summer for Intersession.
For Intersession 2010, fees are $236 per credit for undergraduate and $285 for graduate per credit hour.
Fees for Intersession are due by December 17, 2009.
Yes, students can receive financial aid for Intersession. Contact the Financial Aid office, (208) 426-1664, or visit the Intersession Financial Aid Facts web page.
Yes, they count toward students’ spring semester credit totals. So an undergraduate taking 3 credits during intersession and 9 credits during 15-week spring session will be a fulltime 12-credit student for the spring semester. However, intersession classes are billed separately. Therefore, students pay additional for their intersession classes. Also, intersession classes will not cause a student to pay “overload” fees for spring semester.
Due to concentrated coursework and rigor of the Intersession, it is highly suggested that students take no more than three credits during this session. A three-credit Intersession class is roughly the equivalent of a full-time job for those three to four weeks.
Yes. New and continuing students can register just for Intersession. Fall 2009 students have been assigned Spring 2010 appointment times for registration and can sign up for Intersession classes at that time. New students will need to go through the application process to obtain a registration appointment. For admission information, visit the Admissions website, or call (208) 426-1156.
Intersession courses are scheduled in the Interactive Learning Center and the Business Building.
While operating hours are limited this time of year, essential services such as library access, book sales, security, registration, financial aid, and parking will be available to intersession students. The exception is that the University closes for up to a week around Christmas. Intersession classes will not be held on these days the University is closed.
Intersession is not designed for this purpose. Grading for fall classes will not always be complete prior to the start of intersession classes, and grading for intersession classes won’t be concluded before the start of spring semester classes. Also, because intersession is linked to the spring semester, the effect of intersession classes on GPA and academic standing won’t be calculated until May. The condensed nature of intersession courses may make them an unwise choice for students struggling academically.
Intersession parking allows all permit holders from fall or spring semesters to park in any General or Reserved lot on campus. It does not allow students to park in pay lots without payment. Students who do not already have permits, can pay $1 per hour and park in the Brady Garage or pre-purchase an Intersession Permit for $34 and park in General or Reserved lots on campus. For more information on parking, visit boisestate.edu/parking.
The Intersession program is administered by the Office of Summer Programs within the Division of Extended Studies.
