Energy Research, Policy and Campus Sustainability

Message from the Associate Vice President, John Gardner
Boise State’s location, in Idaho’s capital and in the intermountain west, gives us a distinct advantage in studying these world-changing issues on a more personal scale. In a sense, the intermountain west is a laboratory for world development. The challenges of global climate change, and proactive measures to limit its impact, are more acutely felt where water is limited and growth is prodigious.
During the summer of 2007, Dr. Kustra shared with me his vision to position Boise State University as a leader in the scholarship of sustainability as well as sustainable campus operations and growth. He asked me to implement this effort.
Boise State is well-suited to incorporate this vision into the larger goal of becoming a metropolitan research university of distinction.
Many of our renowned faculty, both current and emerging, have built their reputations on topics that are directly or indirectly related to sustainability, the environment and economic development.
Through world class scholarship and through leadership in the way we sustainably operate and grow our campus, Boise State University is well on its way to becoming the regional and national leader as a truly environmentally friendly university. Our turf may be blue, but our campus is green!
