Typical Mode of Commute:
Bicycle
Describe your ride:
I love it. I ride from Boise's North End, through the city on Sixth Street and then through the park and over the Friendship Bridge right to my office in the Library.
Typical Time for Commute:
10 to 15 minutes.
How often do you drive to campus?
1 to 2 times a month.
How do you deal with adverse conditions?
Rain gear and warm clothes when needed. I have lights for the darker times.
What do you like best about your commute?
It allows me to warm up and cool down at the beginning and end of the day. It is a wonderful way to clear your head. It is also beautiful. Nice to be outside and good to get some exercise. One of my favorite views in the city is the one from the footbridge that goes from Julia Davis Park to the campus. I believe it is the most scenic entrance to Boise State and I get to cross that every day. Any season of the year it is beautiful. I often pause and look around and reflect on how grateful I am for this beauty.
What do you like least about your commute?
The poor weather, ice, drivers or other commuters that are not friendly.
What would you say to someone considering bicycle commuting?
Give it a try, you will love it. Make sure you know the route, be especially safe, have a cell phone or back up in case something happens and enjoy the ride.
What would you like the administration to do to better promote alternative transportation?
Provide a 7 to 10 times a semester parking pass. There are those few days one needs to drive and it would be great to offer this and not have to buy a full semester pass. Any other incentives/awards (bookstore coupons, sporting event tickets) might encourage others to ride/walk.
